The primary mission of the division is to support NOAA's mission of safe and efficient navigation.
This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. The ZP-03 is equivalent to the GS-11/12.

NOTE: This vacancy may be used to fill other Oceanographer, ZP-1360-03, positions throughout NOAA. The position must be alike (e.g.: within the same geographic locations, same grade/band requires the same qualifications as indicated in this vacancy announcement). Perform advanced data processing of water level data sets in a database environment following established priority designations and ensuring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Assess the data quality control and conduct quality assurance of near real time tidal water level, currents, and meteorological data.
Apply oceanographic knowledge to generate routine operational products derived from physical oceanographic data to safe marine navigation and/or other applications in the coastal marine environment.
Lead, or participate on project teams, working groups and comittees related to the development of physical oceanographic applications from water level data sets.
Write technical reports and SOPs.
Develop and give presentations to internal working groups.

CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 1360, OCEANOGRAPHY SERIES:
Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.
OR Combination of education and
Experience: course work as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
NOTE: Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics. IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS , applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

Experience: One full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the _ZP-2 or GS-9_ of the Federal service:
Assisting with physical oceanographic data processing techniques in a database management system;
Aiding physical oceanographic data quality control, time series analysis, datum computations, and harmonic analysis along with oceanographic data collection and product generation;
Supporting the application of principles, practices, and theories of coastal tidal theory and physical oceanography;
Participating and or leading, technical project teams conducting physical oceanographic studies and;
Facilitating the preparation of presentations, reports, Standard Operating Procedures, and communication of technical information in writing and verbally to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
